iOS 27’s new Siri feature will transform your iPhone camera into an AI-powered camera.
iOS 27 radically alters the way you use your iPhone's camera, and it's something we've only seen on Android before. Apple has long promised that artificial intelligence will play a central role in its devices, and it seems that this moment is finally coming with the upcoming operating system update. The latest rumors point to a completely new Siri that will reshape the camera experience on mobile devices.
According to Bloomberg , one of the most notable changes iOS 27 will bring is the addition of Siri mode directly to the Camera app. This mode will appear as an additional option within the mode selector, alongside Photo, Video, and Portrait modes. This update will give Visual Intelligence, a feature previously only accessible by long-pressing the camera button on the iPhone 16, its own prominent place within the user interface.
The new mode works similarly to Lens on Android, where you point the camera at any object or scene, and then you can send queries to ChatGPT or perform reverse image searches using Google to get information about what you see. This change will help integrate visual intelligence into your daily life in a more practical way and without the need to learn any additional commands.
Apple will redesign the shutter button for this feature, replacing the traditional white circular shape with one inspired by the Apple Intelligence logo. Journalist Mark Gurman notes that the function will remain accessible via the camera control button, but will now open the iPhone's camera app instead of a separate interface.
In addition to redesigning the app, Apple is expanding Siri's camera capabilities using its own technology. One new feature allows users to scan food nutrition labels to record nutritional information directly. You can also capture contact information from the camera and add it to your address book without any additional steps.
German indicates that these features won't be limited to the iPhone; Apple will integrate this real-time environmental analysis capability into other devices, such as its rumored smart glasses or new AirPods. All of these devices will be built around the new Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence technology.
This report comes just hours after the leak of new features for the Photos app in iOS 27. According to a Bloomberg journalist, Apple will add three editing tools to the Photos app under the name "Apple Smart Tools." These tools will offer features such as expanding photos beyond their original boundaries, automatically enhancing photos by adjusting brightness, color, and other parameters, as well as changing the perspective of 3D photos.
The iOS 27 update package is not limited to the camera; it will also include a standalone Siri app, a more interactive user interface resembling chatbots, and general improvements to system performance, battery life, and stability.
The new Siri, powered by a Gemini processor, will be unveiled at WWDC 2026 in June. Users will have to wait until the fall to access it, when it will be released alongside the iPhone 18.
