Malwarebytes has added a new fraud detection feature that uses artificial intelligence.

Cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes has launched a new fraud detection tool. This tool allows users to monitor fraud attempts in real time within an AI-powered chatbot. The idea is simple: a link, phone number, email address, or received message can be pasted into the chat, and the tool will indicate whether it is likely a scam.

Currently, as detailed in a Malwarebytes post dated April 29, this feature is available for the Cloud bot. It will likely be rolled out to other popular chatbots in the future, allowing users to check links, phone numbers, and messages without leaving the conversation.

Anthropic's AI assistant, Claude, is one of the most widely used assistants. It has recently gained immense popularity, and according to a study we recently published, it is currently considered the best AI assistant. Now, thanks to this new feature from Malwarebytes, users will be able to avoid scams.

Cyber fraud has become more sophisticated in recent years. While it often displays telltale signs, such as feigned urgency or repetitive messages, it's not always easy to detect. Attackers exploit this and can steal personal information or passwords or even take control of a device.

Malwarebytes aims to provide users with the ability to use chatbots like Cloud to check if they might be targeted by a scam. To achieve this, the company integrates its threat intelligence system with Anthropic's Cloud Assistant. The checks will be conducted within the conversation itself, without redirecting users to an external website or security tool.

For example, if you receive a suspicious link that you suspect might be a scam, simply paste it into the chatbot. The system will then begin examining the link and may display one of four results: harmful, suspicious, safe, or unknown. The response will also include contextual information to help you understand why the link was categorized that way.

It's worth noting that users can perform multiple checks simultaneously. For example, they can send a message containing links, numbers, or email addresses that might be fraudulent. The chatbot will quickly analyze all of this.

Furthermore, users can report suspicious links or numbers directly through the linking tool. This information is sent to Malwarebytes' threat intelligence team, where it is analyzed and added to their database, making it available in their security tools.

Marcin Kliczynski, founder and CEO of Malwarebytes, states, "The use of artificial intelligence has opened up new avenues for cyberattacks, and when combined with deceptive language or images, anyone can fall victim." Therefore, using AI to detect this type of fraud is an effective solution.

Malwarebytes indicates that setting up the tethering tool is extremely simple; just open the Cloud program, go to the Tethering Tools section, and select Malwarebytes from the available list. No account creation is required, so you can start using it right away.
